# Download oCMS

Choose your platform, review the release, and get started.

Choose a prebuilt oCMS archive for your platform. Each archive includes the CMS binary, embedded admin assets, core themes and built-in modules, the README, and the license. Go and Node.js are not required to run a prebuilt binary.

Review the release details and upgrade requirements below, then use the platform-specific quick start to run oCMS locally. Keep your database, uploads, custom themes, and configuration when updating an existing site.

[Read the v0.30.0 release notes](https://github.com/olegiv/ocms-go/releases/tag/v0.30.0).

## What is new in v0.30.0?

- Authenticator-app two-factor authentication and single-use recovery codes for administrator, editor, and public accounts.
- Password confirmation for sensitive account changes and DB Manager activation.
- Deployment and production-data sync scripts report failed health checks when an instance fails to start.
- Updated dependencies and Go 1.27.3 for source builds.

### Important upgrade requirement

Production requires two-factor authentication by default. Configure `OCMS_MFA_KEY` with at least 32 bytes, distinct from `OCMS_SESSION_SECRET`. Keep the MFA key stable and back it up with the database. Existing users enroll an authenticator at their next sign-in. Read the [breaking changes](https://github.com/olegiv/ocms-go/releases/latest) before upgrading; server startup applies pending database migrations.

Follow the [complete upgrade walkthrough](https://ocms.tech/upgrading) to rehearse the release, back up the site, install the verified binary and recover the old installation if necessary.

## Verify build provenance

Optionally verify an archive's build provenance with the GitHub CLI before extracting it. For the Linux AMD64 download:

```sh
gh attestation verify ocms-linux-amd64.tar.gz --repo olegiv/ocms-go
```

  grep -F '  ocms-linux-amd64.tar.gz' checksums.txt | sha256sum -c -
  tar -xzf ocms-linux-amd64.tar.gz
  ./ocms -version
  ./ocms init my-site
  cd my-site
  ../ocms serve
)
```
### Linux ARM64
  tar -xzf ocms-darwin-arm64.tar.gz
  ./ocms -version
  ./ocms init my-site
  cd my-site
  ../ocms serve
```

Run in Bash or Zsh. The commands create a new directory and verify the archive before extracting it.

Open [localhost:8080/admin/](http://localhost:8080/admin/), then follow the [first-run setup instructions](https://ocms.tech/configuration#first-run) before deployment.

Follow the [Build your first site](https://ocms.tech/build-your-first-ocms-site) walkthrough to publish a page, customize a theme, and prepare for deployment.

## Installation troubleshooting

These checks apply to the prebuilt quick start. Read the terminal's first error before running a command again.

macOS says the developer cannot be verified

First confirm that you downloaded the Apple Silicon archive from the release linked above and that its checksum matches. Try opening the binary once, then go to **System Settings → Privacy & Security** and use **Open Anyway** if macOS offers it.

See [Apple's guidance on opening apps safely](https://support.apple.com/en-us/102445). If macOS reports malware or that an app will damage your computer, stop and investigate the download.

Port 8080 is already in use

Stop the other service if you own it, or change `OCMS_SERVER_PORT=8080` to `OCMS_SERVER_PORT=8081` in `my-site/.env`. Restart oCMS from the generated site directory, then open [localhost:8081/admin/](http://localhost:8081/admin/).

Update `OCMS_SERVER_PORT` in your shell too if you already exported it: environment variables take precedence over the file.

Permission denied or the database is read-only

Extract the archive into a directory owned by your user and run the quick start there. If the binary lost its executable permission during copying, run `chmod u+x ./ocms` from the extracted release directory.

Start the server from `my-site` with `../ocms serve`. The user running oCMS needs write access to the site directory, the SQLite database and its containing directory, and uploads. Do not use `chmod 777` or run the local quick start as root.

The checksum fails or the archive is incomplete

Download both the archive and `checksums.txt` again from the [latest stable release](https://github.com/olegiv/ocms-go/releases/latest), into a fresh directory. Choose the checksum command for your platform and rerun verification before extracting.

On macOS the quick start uses `shasum -a 256 -c -`; on Linux it uses `sha256sum -c -`. A mismatch means the archive is not ready to run. Do not bypass verification.

The binary reports an incompatible architecture

Check `uname -m`: Linux `x86_64` uses AMD64; Linux `aarch64` or `arm64` uses ARM64; an Apple Silicon Mac uses the macOS ARM64 archive. Linux and macOS binaries are not interchangeable.

The prebuilt options above cover Linux AMD64, Linux ARM64 and Apple Silicon macOS. See the [source build instructions on master](https://github.com/olegiv/ocms-go/blob/master/README.md#build-from-source) for other build options.
